Lavender

Holistic Pet Tip: Lavender

Lavender is not only a beautiful plant with lovely, purple flowers that smell heavenly, but it also has medicinal qualities. The plant is in the mint family and can be made into a tea or used in cooking. We find it in the spice combination Herbes de Provence. As a tea, it has a calming effect. Medicinally, lavender essential oils are the most potent form. Essential oils are concentrated extracts from plants. Lavender essential oil is very soothing and also has antibacterial properties.

I use organic lavender essential oil in many of my PawromaTherapy products. In a diluted form, it is safe for pets. It is great for soothing itchy skin and irritation, and to help treat bacteria and yeast infections. See my article, How to Safely Use Essential Oils in Pets for more information on how to use lavender and other essential oils in pets.

Healing Gel for Dogs contains aloe vera gel with lavender essential oil and 3 other essentials oils. It is perfect for any skin problems in dogs such as hot spots, itchy skin, crusty elbows, bug bites, yeast infections and more.

Healing Gel for Cats combines aloe vera gel with some herbs and very diluted lavender essential oil. It works great for itchy skin, hairloss, dermatitis, bug bites, wounds and abcesses, and more.

If you want your own lavender essential oil. Look for a pure product that is organic. And make sure to dilute it before applying it to your pet. See my article, How to Safely Use Essential Oils in Pets for more information. There are a lot of good brands. One that I really like is from Floracopeia.
