Bone Broth for Dogs and Cats

Bone broth is high in collagen and gelatin which are great for joints, ligaments, skin and coat! Bone broth has properties that can help heal the intestines and stomach from things like leaky gut and inflammatory bowel disease. It is also very nourishing, rich in minerals and calcium, and suitable for pets of all ages and is especially good for older pets and sick pets that have a decreased appetite.
We have homemade frozen bone broth available in the clinic at Animal Healing Solutions. You can also easily make your own at home for your pets and yourself.
Basic Bone Broth Recipe for Dogs and Cats
2-3 pounds of chicken, turkey or beef bones (can be raw or leftover cooked bones)
2 cloves of garlic (optional)
2 whole carrots, coursely chopped (optional)
2 ribs celery including leafy part, coursely chopped (optional)
1/2 cup fresh parsley
1 TBS Apple Cider Vinegar
Filtered water
Choose organic ingredients when possible. For bones, you can use wings, leftover chicken/turkey carcasses, marrow bones, chicken legs, etc.
Add all bones and vegetables to a slow cooker. Add apple cider vinegar. Cover with water. Cook on low for 8-10 hours, up to 24 hours.
When done, strain the broth and pour into jars. It will keep for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or can be frozen in containers or ice cube trays.
A serving is approximately 1 tablespoon or 1 ounce for every 10 lbs of body weight once or twice a day.
